As promised, here is a list of the awards eligibility for the stories in the Nordic Visions anthology.

Nordic Visions – The Best of Nordic Speculative Fiction (eds. Margret Helgadottir), was published by Solaris Books in October 2023. Read more about the anthology here.

The anthology in itself is eligible for nominations to Best anthology published in 2023, and I (Margret Helgadottir) am eligible as editor short form. This is my 9th anthology as editor, all anthologies within the speculative genres (fantasy, science fiction, horror, weird). See all the books here.

For the short stories in Nordic Visions anthology, most are below 7500 words. Here is their eligibility:

New short stories/novelettes:

  • Jakob Drud: «Heather Country» – science fiction
  • Thore Hansen: «The Day Jonas Shadowed His Dad», translated from Norwegian by Olivia Lasky – fantasy
  • Tone Almhjell: «The Cormorant» (novelette: 8000 words) – fantasy

First time in English – earlier published short stories/novelettes translated to English exclusively for this anthology:

Short stories:

  • Kaspar Colling Nielsen: «The False Fisherman», translated from Danish by Olivia Lasky – weird/fantasy
  • Lene Kaaberbøl: «The Traveller Girl», translated from Danish by Lene Kaaberbøl – fantasy
  • Rakel Helmsdal: «The Abyss», translated from Faroese by Marita Thomsen – weird/fantasy
  • Alexander Dan Vilhjálmsson: «Hamraborg Babylon», translated from Icelandic by Quentin Bates – science fiction
  • Tor Åge Bringsværd: «As You Wish», translated from Norwegian by Olivia Lasky – science fiction

Novelettes:

  • Emmi Itäranta: «The Wings that Slice the Sky», translated from Finnish by Emmi Itäranta (novelette: 8000 words) – fantasy
  • John Ajvide Lindqvist: «She», translated from Swedish by Marlaine Delargy (novelette: 9000 words) – horror

The remaining 6 stories in the anthology are all English reprints, and not eligible for award nominations 2023.
